Want to prepare something healthy, tasty and crispy to pair with tea or coffee, then try this authentic South Indian style Murukku recipe at home. However, this traditional snack is usually made by deep frying the Murukkus in hot oil to give a nice crispy_texture, well here’s a healthier version of this recipe, which can be recreated at home too without any oil.

1 cup rice flour, 1/4 cup urad dal flour, 2 tbsp curry leaves chopped, 2 tbsp besan,1 tsp sesame seeds, 1 pinch hing, 1 tsp red chili powder, salt and pepper to taste, water as needed. Murukku press or chakli maker, parchment paper or banana leaf.

To begin with this easy recipe, take a pan and dry roast urad dal until it turns golden brown. Allow it to cool and then grind it into a fine powder.

Now, take a large bowl and combine rice flour, roasted urad dal flour, besan using a sieve.

Next, add sesame seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, pepper, red chili powder, and salt. Mix it well.

Gradually add water to the flour mixture and knead it into a smooth, stiff dough. The consistency should be similar to that of regular murukku dough.

Once the dough is ready, grease the murukku press with some oil Take a small portion of the dough and place it inside the murukku press. Press the dough onto a parchment paper or banana leaf in a circular, spiral shape.
